Sometimes all it may take to get your target keyword to start ranking in Google and in Google’s local map pack is a simple title tag and URL change.
Let me show you exactly what I changed to get my keyword to start ranking in the third position in Google’s search engine in only 1 day!
Start With Google Search Console “Search Analytics” Report
First, I logged in to Google Search Console to see the search statistics on the page that I was trying to rank for my target keyword.
I browsed through the total clicks, total impressions, avg. CTR and avg. position and realized that this page was performing poorly even though there is a lot of impressions, and therefore clicks, to be had from my target keyword!
So I realized, It was time to change things up! Starting with the title tag.
When I took another glance over the title tag this is what it read:
Since I was simultaneously trying to boost the click through rate, I quickly went over to the Google Adwords account where I have a paid campaign running for the target keyword, and guess what kind of click-through-rate that ad had? 4.56%!
So I thought to myself, what element of this ad is possibly giving it that kind of CTR? “Short & Long-Term” of course!! Not only did I not stop there, I also wanted to add the power word, “Available Now” to the title tag.
After putting it all together this is what I came up with:
Target Your URL’s to Your Location
The final piece to the puzzle was the realization that we were targeting a specific state, Wisconsin. Due to this, it would make more sense if the URL had that state in it.
After changing the URL to include Wisconsin, Yoast premium took care of the 301 redirect automatically for me.
After making these changes, within 24 hours, we went from not even ranking for our targeted keyword to now being in the 3rd position for our target keyword and even got in the local pack!
